ELLAGRET S.A. pays great interest on safety of high level, both during the production process and during storage of products. Having as a rule motto the above mentioned but also the need for the preservation of safety stock in order that the smooth - continuous supply of the market and the best service of its customers is being achieved, the company has proceeded to the construction of a new, high safety  warehouse of  1.000 sq.m. and capacity of 1.000 tons.

The warehouse has been constructed according to the FAO safety standards by reinforced fire-resistant concrete, so that the following technical requirements are being fulfilled:

  • The roof is made of a lightweight material that can be easily broken, so that in case of fire it will allow smoke and fumes to escape to avoid explosions. On the other hand, this material has the proper thickness which ensures the durability and protection from external environmental conditions (wind, storm, etc.)
  • The walls have a parapet externally, so that the leakage product is deposited in the trench.
  • The internal walls are smooth and without cracks and protrusions, so that their easy cleaning is possible.
  • The windows are shadowed (for the protection of the products from the sunlight and heat) and they have safety barriers. The warehouse is laminated adequately with the use of natural and artificial lighting (200 lux), ensuring this way the readability of the product’s label information.
  • Due to the fact that possible sparks may cause a fire, the electrical equipment is insulated.
  • The floor is made of impermeable material and it is sloped towards the trench, so that the product of possible runoff can be collected there with the purpose of being neutralised after that. The floor rises at the edges for the avoidance of possible leakage outside of the warehouse. The external walls are based on dry parapets of 14 cm height.
  • There is the necessary equipment for hands and face washing, as well as for the decontamination of the personnel in case of contamination.
  • Peripherally, there is a system of water-tight cement tanks in which possible losses and leakages will be led in to for their neutralization and removal. Contaminated water shall not be channeled in a sewerage system or the underground water, but shall be led to the water-tight collection tanks.
  • Between the various storage compartments there are fire-resistant barriers, in order to block the spread of fire.
  • The warehouse has four emergency exits, added to the rest of the entrances, which are located at the opposite side to that of the entrance of the building.

Arrangement of raw materials and products in the area is done on the basis of their health hazard evaluation according to the relevant SEVESO directive and FAO specifications regarding storage of pesticides.

By following the principle of «separation of the various risk groups» the following substance categories arise:

  • Flammable materials (solvents),
  • Toxic materials,
  • Flammable formulated products,
  • Other products.

Finally, it is noted that the company’s total enclosed warehouse space covers an area of 3,150 sq.m., whereas its open-air such (shelters) covers 560 sq.m.
